Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
After testing dozens of recipes, this is the chocolate chip cookie that has earned a permanent spot in my kitchen. The secret? Brown butter and a 30-minute rest for the dough.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
- Brown the butter: melt in saucepan over medium heat, stirring until golden and nutty. Cool 10 minutes.
- Mix brown butter with both sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Fold in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
- Rest dough 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Preheat oven to 375F. Scoop dough onto lined baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
- Bake 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers still look slightly underdone.
- Cool on pan 5 minutes before transferring.
